Where the Waves Led Us \u2014 The Journey of a BAM Training & Retreat Center<\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

On 16 June 2026, we gathered with YWAM Global Elders, ministry leaders, partners, local church leaders, friends and supporters to dedicate the BAM Training & Retreat Centre<\/strong> on Jeju Island.<\/p>\n

This dedication marked the opening of the first centre of its kind within our context, a place intentionally established to equip believers for the marketplace and to mobilize them to influence the seven spheres of society. More than a retreat centre, it is a place where spiritual formation, professional excellence and Business as Mission come together to prepare men and women to impact communities and nations for Christ in the 7 spheres.<\/p>\n

Where the Vision Began<\/h3>\n

The vision did not begin with buildings or accommodation units. It began with a burden that God had been shaping in our hearts for many years.<\/p>\n

For over thirty years, we have served across the Asia Pacific as missionaries, pioneers, trainers and consultants in the marketplace. Long before the term Business as Mission (BAM) became widely known, we started and operated various BAM ministries and were helping churches, ministries and marketplace leaders integrate faith with work, and start BAM initiatives. Along the way, we were also providing professional training and consulting to over 200 companies and government institutions from both private and public sectors, NGOs, and non-profit organizations while being a light amongst them.<\/p>\n

Through these experiences, we saw God increasingly using the marketplace as a strategic mission field. At the same time, we met many leaders who longed to start marketplace initiatives but lacked practical training, mentoring and the encouragement to take the steps.<\/p>\n

As we prayed about the next season of our lives, we sensed the Lord asking us, “How will you steward and multiply what I have entrusted to you?”<\/strong> And this led us to another question: “Why would seasoned missionaries, after more than thirty years of pioneering ministry, choose to start all over again in a new place?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The answer was not that we wanted another project. God was calling us to converge and multiply<\/strong> Kingdom leaders who will influence the marketplace and the nations for Christ. We felt He laid on our hearts to create a place where our years of missionary experience, BAM journey, professional expertise and passion for equipping leaders could come together. If the lessons God has taught us over the past three decades can be multiplied through others, then perhaps the greatest fruit of our ministry is still ahead.<\/p>\n

Following His Voice \u2013 the Journey<\/h3>\n

Like many God-given visions, the journey here was anything but straightforward. As we prayed about where God was calling us to set up this center in the Asia-Pacific region, we considered many different countries. Then I fell sick and was hospitalized in Singapore. In the quietness of that hospital room, the Lord gave me a vision of the waves of Jeju Island, even though I had never been there before. That was the beginning of our journey and move to Jeju.<\/p>\n

In our first 8 months prior to our move here, we worked through the complex process of establishing and obtaining the necessary approvals and registrations. When we first arrived in Jeju, we barely knew anyone. Everything was unfamiliar \u2013 the language, culture, regulations and systems. Simple tasks that many take for granted often became major challenges. Thankfully, modern translation apps became our constant companions as our family slowly learned to navigate life in a new country.<\/p>\n

We viewed more than 200 pieces of land from Seogwipo to Jocheon before finding the property God has prepared for us. What looked like “just another piece of land” often carried vastly different zoning restrictions, development regulations and permit requirements. Construction brought its own challenges, including bureaucratic processes, weather delays, changing plans and financial sacrifices.<\/p>\n

Yet throughout the journey, we experienced God’s faithfulness in remarkable ways. Bank staff patiently spent hours helping us navigate unfamiliar systems to get our accounts set up. Employees at our telecommunications provider went far beyond their responsibilities to help us establish essential services as foreigners.<\/p>\n

Our construction team went far beyond their professional responsibilities. With the help of translation apps and much patience, they spent countless hours explaining complex land regulations, reviewing properties one after another with us, and guiding us through decisions until we found our land. This took almost a year.<\/p>\n

We are especially grateful for the YWAM Jeju community who welcomed our family. The friendship, encouragement, and practical support made us feel that we truly belong, and before long, Jeju no longer felt like a foreign place, it felt like home. We remain deeply grateful.<\/p>\n

More Than a Training & Retreat Center: Raising a New Generation for the Nations<\/h3>\n

One of the first times we were invited to the Jeju campus, we walked into the auditorium while worship was already underway. Mighty waves filled the screen behind the worship team. Instantly, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the vision of Jeju’s waves He had given me months earlier in the hospital. As we stood there, we sensed Him speaking to our hearts about His purpose: a fresh wave of His Spirit, raising up a new generation that would be sent to the nations.<\/strong> We knew then that He had brought us to Jeju to be a part of what He is doing and is going to do.<\/p>\n

The vision for the center is that it will become an apostolic equipping centre where spiritual formation and professional excellence come together. Here, pastors, missionaries, business owners, professionals, students and emerging leaders can find space to rest, hear God’s voice and receive practical training that prepares them to serve Christ in every sphere of society.<\/p>\n

Drawing from our extensive experience and strength in curriculum and training design, consulting, and marketplace engagement, we are passionate about integrating professional excellence with Kingdom values. Through this, we seek to equip and empower a new generation of leaders who will bring transformation to every sphere of society for the glory of Christ throughout Asia Pacific region and beyond. Our ultimate goal is not simply to add another ministry. It is to multiply Kingdom influence.<\/p>\n
