For Such a Time as This<\/span>
LTS , and a New Story Beginning in Jeju<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the summer of 2026, something rather special began to unfold at the University of the Nations Jeju.<\/p>\n

People from different nations gathered around the same tables. Some spoke in English, some in Korean, and others in Spanish. At our community gatherings, interpretation was provided not only in English, Korean, and Spanish, but also in American Sign Language (ASL). <\/p>\n

Our languages, cultures, food, and ways of life were different, but we came to Jeju with one shared question:<\/p>\n

\n

“God, how can we faithfully respond to Your calling in this time?”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Held at the University of the Nations Jeju from June 1 to August 14, 2026, the Mission True Leadership Training School (LTS) brought together 84 students representing 29 nations. Together with LTS staff from around the world and the children of students and staff, an international community of 120+ people lived and journeyed together in Jeju for nearly three months. <\/p>\n

During the first two weeks, additional participants also joined the community specifically for the DNA gathering. With different generations, nations, languages, and cultures gathered on one campus, this LTS became much more than another leadership training program. <\/p>\n

It was a season to revisit YWAM’s history and DNA, discern together what God is doing among the next generation, and prepare for new pioneering initiatives and the future of missions.<\/p>\n

More than anything, this LTS opened a new season for the University of the Nations Jeju\u2014one unlike anything we had experienced before.<\/p>\n

LTS Begins Again<\/h3>\n

The Leadership Training School is designed to equip YWAM’s current and emerging leaders with strong spiritual foundations and practical leadership skills, while deepening their understanding of YWAM’s calling and values.<\/p>\n

One of the significant fruits of LTS throughout its history was never simply the training of good leaders. LTS and the projects that emerged from it led to new ministries and pioneering initiatives, playing an important role as YWAM grew and multiplied around the world. <\/p>\n

For various reasons, however, LTS was not held for approximately two decades.<\/p>\n

In recent years, several leaders began asking YWAM co-founder Darlene Cunningham to restart the LTS. After a long pause, the school began to be pioneered once again.<\/p>\n

That renewed journey took LTS through Costa Rica, Lausanne, and Kona, and in 2026, it continued to Jeju.<\/p>\n

The vision of the renewed LTS was not simply to preserve the legacy of the past. It was to create a place where individuals could hear God regarding their own calling while, as a community, seeking Him for YWAM’s future\u2014revisiting our history and foundational values as a basis for what lies ahead and preparing a new generation of leaders and pioneers. <\/p>\n

The return of LTS, therefore, was not simply about restoring a school from the past.<\/p>\n

It was about remembering where YWAM has come from and asking together where God is leading us next.<\/p>\n

“Go to Korea at This Time”<\/h3>\n

Jeju was not originally intended to be the destination for the next LTS.<\/p>\n

Following the 2024 LTS in Lausanne, the initial direction was to hold the next school in Africa. But during that LTS, God spoke to the leaders in several ways, strongly indicating that this was the time to go to Korea. <\/p>\n

The leaders decided to obey.<\/p>\n

And out of that obedience, the 2026 Mission True LTS was held at the University of the Nations Jeju.<\/p>\n

As the school began, Edwin Fillies, Faby Ruesga, and Giacomo Coghi, who led the LTS together, spoke of Korea as a land carrying a deep missionary story\u2014a history marked by prayer, perseverance, sacrifice, and sending. They described Korea as a living testimony of what God can do through a people who wholeheartedly surrender themselves to Him, and expressed what a gift it was to gather here at such a time. <\/p>\n

Esther 4:14 became an important invitation for this LTS:<\/p>\n

\n

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It was a kairos moment where calling and history met.<\/p>\n

Our hope was that this LTS would not simply react to the pressures of the times, but would become a place where we listened to God and realigned our steps with His purposes.<\/p>\n

Alignment. Refreshing. Commissioning. Renewed Vision. <\/p>\n

To be realigned, refreshed, commissioned, and given renewed vision.<\/p>\n

These were the expectations we carried together from the beginning of the LTS.<\/p>\n

Jeju Gave What It Had<\/h3>\n

But an LTS could not happen simply because people from around the world came to Jeju.<\/p>\n

To welcome them, someone had to make room and offer what they had.<\/p>\n

Edwin, Faby, Giacomo, the school leadership, and LTS staff who came to Jeju from many nations prepared for the school. At the same time, the University of the Nations Jeju community made an important decision: <\/p>\n

During the summer quarter of 2026, we would not run our regular schools, but instead make the campus, its spaces, and its resources available for the LTS.<\/p>\n

This meant much more than simply providing buildings and classrooms.<\/p>\n

Menus were adjusted so people from many cultural backgrounds could live together. The caf\u00e9 was relocated to create a space where people could meet and build relationships more naturally. Meal schedules and the daily rhythms of Jeju staff were adjusted, and many campus activities were rearranged to help the LTS run well. <\/p>\n

Of course, not everything was comfortable from the beginning.<\/p>\n

Some of these changes were unfamiliar to the Jeju community. For LTS students and staff from around the world, Korean food, culture, and patterns of community life could also feel unfamiliar. <\/p>\n

But it was precisely within those differences that we slowly began to learn from one another.<\/p>\n

We learned to give way and to wait. We tried to understand one another’s ways. Instead of insisting only on what was familiar to us, we learned that loving one another sometimes meant willingly embracing inconvenience. And little by little, the differences that had initially felt uncomfortable became part of the beauty of our community. <\/p>\n

Three Months Unlike Any in Our 30-Year History<\/h3>\n

Since its establishment in 1996, the University of the Nations Jeju has carried a vision to serve as a missions hub for East Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n

Over the past 30 years, numerous schools, seminars, and missions training programs have taken place in Jeju, drawing people from many nations. A number of international seminars and training programs have also been hosted here. <\/p>\n

However, most long-term programs held on campus have primarily been led by Koreans and designed for Korean participants. International seminars and training programs, including DNA gatherings, have generally lasted around two weeks or, at most, a few weeks. <\/p>\n

In that sense, this LTS was different.<\/p>\n

For nearly three months, people representing such a wide range of nations, languages, and cultural backgrounds lived alongside the Jeju community and became one school and one community. It was an experience unlike anything the University of the Nations Jeju had seen before.<\/p>\n

That meant some of the most important learning of the LTS did not happen in the classroom.<\/p>\n

It happened in the dining hall.<\/p>\n

It happened in the caf\u00e9. It happened during worship and intercession, and as we worked and served the campus together. <\/p>\n

LTS participants also joined campus construction projects. Rather than seeing themselves as guests who would stay for a short time and leave, they served with the understanding that they, too, were part of this community. <\/p>\n

The leadership training itself was also never limited to classroom teaching. Worship, intercession, small groups, work duties, and community life were integral parts of the program, providing opportunities to connect what was being learned with everyday life and to practice leadership through serving one another. <\/p>\n

Throughout the ordinary moments of this summer, we began to understand what that really meant.<\/p>\n

From Every Nation, Tribe, People and Language<\/h3>\n

One of the scenes that most clearly represented this LTS could be seen at nearly every community gathering.<\/p>\n

When one person spoke, the message was communicated in English, Korean, and Spanish. At the same time, it was interpreted into American Sign Language (ASL). <\/p>\n

Sometimes it took time for a single sentence to reach everyone. It required significant effort from those leading and those interpreting. <\/p>\n

If efficiency had been our only concern, there would certainly have been easier ways.<\/p>\n

But instead of moving faster, we chose the path of moving together. In some small way, it reminded us of the picture in Revelation 7:9: <\/p>\n

“A great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language\u2026”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Unity did not require our different languages to disappear.<\/p>\n

Nor did it require our different cultures to become one culture.<\/p>\n

We discovered that we could come with all our differences and still worship the same God together. We experienced this as one of the beautiful expressions of the Kingdom of God. <\/p>\n

And this experience was not limited to LTS participants. Throughout the summer, various churches and visiting teams came to the University of the Nations Jeju and had the opportunity to see this community up close. As they watched people from different nations, cultures, and languages worship, eat, fellowship, and serve one another, they too were able to experience something of what YWAM and the University of the Nations have long valued as “Unity in Diversity.” <\/p>\n

“Thank You for Opening Your Home to Us”<\/h3>\n

As the school drew toward its conclusion, many international participants shared similar words with the Jeju community:<\/p>\n

“Thank you for receiving us not as guests, but as family.”<\/p>\n

“Thank you for opening your home to us.”<\/p>\n

And from the Jeju community came a similar response:<\/p>\n

“Thank you for coming into our home.”<\/p>\n

There was also another confession:<\/p>\n

\n

“Thank you for sharing with us the treasures of God that we did not have.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This LTS was not a season in which one group simply served another.<\/p>\n

Jeju served the nations, and the nations served Jeju.<\/p>\n

Jeju opened its home, and the nations shared the gifts of God they had brought into that home. We made room for one another. We learned from one another. And in the process, we were changed. <\/p>\n

This same transformation appeared repeatedly in the testimonies shared by students and staff during the final week. One person spoke of healing from wounds experienced in relationships with Koreans. Another discovered new possibilities for Deaf and hearing people serving together. Still another shared the experience of becoming family with people who were very different without losing their own identity. <\/p>\n

Perhaps this was one of the most beautiful fruits of the three months we shared together.<\/p>\n

Back to Our DNA, and Back to the Nations<\/h3>\n

The first two weeks of LTS began with DNA Infusion.<\/p>\n

We revisited YWAM’s history and once again embraced the calling and values God has entrusted to this mission.<\/p>\n

From there, the school moved through the University of the Nations and apostolic vision, strategic leadership, the failure of a leader, project development, pioneering and OMT, communication and innovation, the brain and discipleship, and releasing the next generation.<\/p>\n

There was an important meaning behind this progression.<\/p>\n

We were not returning to our DNA in order to live in the past. We were rediscovering our roots so that we could move faithfully into the future.<\/p>\n

From the first two weeks of DNA with Darlene Cunningham through the final week, we sought to receive YWAM’s story not merely as history, but as a legacy entrusted to us today.<\/p>\n

And that legacy became connected to each person’s life and calling through the final project.<\/p>\n

The LTS Project was designed to help participants clarify the vision God had given them, develop a plan to pursue it, and identify practical next steps toward seeing that vision become reality. It connected personal vision with YWAM’s broader global calling, preparing ideas to become new ministry initiatives through faith, strategy, and obedience. <\/p>\n

And so, 84 students completed the LTS and went back to the nations, each carrying new vision and projects they had received from God.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the real story of this LTS is only beginning now.<\/p>\n

We do not yet know how the visions heard, prayed over, dreamed about, and written down in Jeju will take root in their nations, cities, and ministry contexts.<\/p>\n

But just as previous LTS schools gave birth to new pioneering initiatives and multiplication, we look forward with expectation to seeing what ministries and communities might emerge from the seeds God planted in Jeju, and what fruit they will bear.<\/p>\n

Not an Ending, but a New Beginning<\/h3>\n

The official program of the 2026 Mission True LTS has come to an end.<\/p>\n

But for the University of the Nations Jeju, this summer cannot simply be remembered as a successful event we hosted.<\/p>\n

Rather, it became a season in which we were invited to see again, in a new way, the calling God gave this campus nearly 30 years ago:<\/p>\n

A missions hub serving East Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n

A place where the nations come, encounter God, learn from one another, and are sent back to the nations.<\/p>\n

An international family where different nations, generations, and cultures live together.<\/p>\n

Through this LTS, we experienced, even if only in part, that these words do not have to remain statements of vision. They can become part of our everyday life.<\/p>\n

And the story is already continuing.<\/p>\n

This quarter, a DTS is once again taking place in an international environment, and the University of the Nations Jeju is taking steps into a new season through the door that was opened during the LTS.<\/p>\n

We do not yet know all the ways God will use the University of the Nations Jeju in the years ahead.<\/p>\n

But this summer, the nations came to Jeju.<\/p>\n

Jeju opened its home to the nations.<\/p>\n

And together, we discovered treasures God had placed within one another.<\/p>\n

Now, 84 leaders have gone out from Jeju to the nations once again.<\/p>\n

We look forward to seeing where the visions they carry will take root, what new pioneering works may emerge, what next-generation leaders will be raised up, and what peoples and cities will be served through them.<\/p>\n

As we reflected on the words from Esther that marked the beginning of the LTS, perhaps God truly did gather us together in Jeju “for such a time as this.”<\/p>\n

And we believe:<\/p>\n

This LTS was not the end of a school. It was the beginning of a new story that God will continue to write through Jeju and the nations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
